After 41 years of business, the oldest jewelry store in Zionsville enters a new chapter with its new owner David Haug.

Haug grew up in Speedway and was a golf pro right out of college. He retired from the golf profession and went into the jewelry business where he learned about the trade at a notable northside jewelry store. He spent eight years in the wholesale side of the industry. Haug became interested in the estate buying business in Zionsville where he has worked for the last four years.

“I had the opportunity to meet with Jewel Box Jeweler’s previous owner and founder, Phillip Owens,” Haug said. “Soon after our meeting, I was proposed the opportunity to buy the store as he was ready to retire. It is important for me to honor the hard earned reputation that Jewel Box Jewelers has had for over four decades. The reputation for their excellent customer service and multi-generational customer base were what attracted me the most when considering buying the store.”

Haug and his staff, who are the original employees of the store, continue to focus on the attributes that make Jewel Box Jewelers a tradition for its customers while growing their inventory. They are bringing in the latest in jewelry fashions and expanding their bridal selections to attract a wide variety of buyers. To satisfy any budget, Haug is determined to provide an assortment of quality diamonds and settings to his bridal customers.

“We continue to carry the fabulous and extremely well-known Simon G Collections,” Haug explained. “This brand is exceedingly well crafted, and customers easily recognize the quality of a Simon G piece. We also offer unique lines that are not found in the majority of the area’s jewelry stores. For example, we have brought in Funky Artsy, a line by an Ohio designer that is fun and has been well received by our customers.”

Since acquiring the business, Haug has been encouraged by long-time customers returning and referring their adult children to make their momentous purchases at his store.

“The first engagement ring that I sold as the new owner was to the son of a couple who purchased their wedding set here more than 30 years ago,” Haug said. “It makes me feel good about what we are doing here. As long as we continue to offer our customers a unique selection, current styles and exceptional customer service, we believe that they will keep coming back to us.

“The local jewelry market is incredibly competitive. We are focused on being an asset to the town of Zionsville, being an active community partner and serving our customers so that they keep coming back to the purple awning. We want the locals to know that we are thrilled to be able to offer the service they have become accustomed to and that Jewel Box Jewelers is here to stay.”
